NYX Wicked Dreams Palette Review and Swatches
When I saw this palette at Digital Traincase, I immediately googled it. It was one of NYX's newest palettes at the start of 2013. It was during this time that I was so desperate in getting a decent eyeshadow palette. The name "Wicked Dreams" sounds too enticing and enchanting at the same, right? Thus, I did not hesitate buying it. Plus, I fell in love with the colors. Despite the lack of reviews, being a fairly new product back then, I caved in to my lemming. I bought it at a much lower cost (around 550 pesos I think) because it was on preorder. The palette looked even more gorgeous in person when I received it months ago. It was mixture of neutrals with hints of bold colors! |
This palette is a mixture of 24 matte and shimmery shadows. Just by looking at it, you can tell that the colors in this palette are all very wearable. Think versatility and the amount of makeup looks one can come up with it sanslooking like rainbrowbrite or a clown. Seriously. The color selection in this palette is absolutely stunning and very classy (IMO). Most shades are leaning towards the neutral side which I am very happy about. I immediately thought that it can be a great knock off for the UD Naked Palette or the Lorac Pro because of the color selection. The texture, pigmentation and consistency of each eyeshadow vary. Basically, this palette is both a hit and a miss! Sigh!
The darker matte shadows are very pigmented while the lighter ones appear faint, some barely even showed up at the back of my hand while I try to do swatches. I had to apply two layers to show the colors of the matte light shades. The matte black shadow is the most pigmented out of all the shades in this palette. Also, the light matte colors are really hard to pick up meaning, the color does not show up instantly when swiped. So, I scraped the eyeshadows to transform it into a powder form for easy color pick up. The matte ones are powdery and some are even too chalky for my liking.
The shimmery ones have the best formulation and pigmentation. They are very smooth and the color pay off is remarkable.

Overall, this is a decent palette. Nothing like UD's Naked Palette of Lorac Pro's. Despite the cons I mentioned, all eyeshadows are very much workable with the use of good eye primer or a sticky eyeshadow base.
Here are the swatches with no primer at the back of my hand.
Please take note that some colors are swatched with two layers of shadow to show the shades properly.
All photos are taken under natural light without flash.
The color selection of this palette truly wowed me since all shadows are very wearable for any occassion - day to night time wear. Some eyeshadows in this palette may fail in the pigmentation department but that does not mean I can not make this work diba?! Thanks to eye primers, I can intensify the colors very easily and I can even lengthen the staying power of this product.
Have a blessed day everyone!!!

Gorgeous colors :) shimmery and matte ♥
ReplyDeleteI'm only starting out with eyeshadows and I think I'd feel safer with a very neutral palette muna :)
ReplyDeleteI love NYX products and have a few of their eyeshadow palettes and single eyeshadows. I agree that their shimmery eyeshadows have amazing pigmentation, but that their matte shadows are definitely lacking in quality (pigmentation and ease of application). Overall though, NYX is a great bang for your buck kind of product. Great review :)
ReplyDeleteNot a fan of eyeshadow but when I found out this rview, I'm planning to buy one! :) That's how influencing your posts are! ;)love the shades
ReplyDeleteI love the shades and for P550 I guess it's worth it. I love stocking up on palettes instead of buying the little single ones. <3
