My Lucid Intervals

Having a terrible case of dark under eye circles is probably the worst thing that I have inherited from my mother. When I was younger, I swear I feel hella proud with it. For me it was like sporting a Wednesday Adam look. Now, I look effortlessly haggard and stressed even early in the morning. #Kaloka Well, I have found the best concealing technique to say bye bye to dark circles. Using an orange concealer has been life changing but it has definitely added a few minutes to my everyday makeup routine. I thought of buying a new salmon concealer which works as a corrector and concealer in one but I decided to do a DIY concealer instead. I have too many makeup in my kit why not make use of them to the fullest, right? Yes.. effort ulit itey! haha

These are the things I used for this project. As a substitute for the orange concealer, you may use a matte orange eyeshadow (powderized) or an orange lipstick (quickly melt it under a very low heat).

The things you need:

1. Orange pigment/eyeshadow/no shimmer lipstick/concealer

2. Long Lasting Foundation or BB Cream (Preferably oil free and one that has a good and thick coverage)

3. Silicone based primer (Optional)

4.Eye Cream (Optional)

4. Small jar and spatula for mixing

I bought the jar at Daiso for 66 pesos. It came with 2 jars, 2 bottles, a spatula and a siphon tube.

I scooped out the orange concealer and melted it under low heat. Make sure you start with a small amount of orange pigment or concealer to control the shade. You do not want to end up with just a lighter version of orange concealer. Also, if you put a lot of orange, it is really hard to correct.

Then, I added a long lasting liquid foundation. I chose my Revlon Colorstay and I also added Estee Lauder Stay Matte Double Wear Liquid Foundation. Again, the amount depends on the shade you want to achieve.

I decided to add a silicone based primer to prevent my DIY concealer from creasing and seating on the fine lines under my eyes. I also added a small amount of eye cream to prevent dryness and caking. Make sure to mix the ingredients carefully and thoroughly.

Here is a swatch of my DIY undereye concealer:

I just dab a few dots and work my way around my eyes in a patting motion. It did covered my dark circles really well, don't you think?

Did it last long?
Well, here is a picture of my under eye after 5 hours.
The photo speaks for itself. Ohh,, just take note that I have dry skin. You may tweak the formula or the ingredients I suggested to suit your skin type.

Have you ever bought an eyeshadow palette that is too powdery that it does not even adhere to your lid, instead you get a lot of fall out! Eeek! The problem - we do not have return policy in the Philippines, so you toss your palette inside your makeup kit and keep it until someone adopts it or worst, until it expires. This post will definitely revive your powdery palettes that you are not anymore using.

This next DIY project is an oldie but a goodie. I have made a post about this years ago but I decided to reblog it for the info of my new readers. Back in the days when I still do fotd's and looks every now and then, people would often ask me how I mak my eyeshadow look vibrant. Back then, the only eyeshadow primer known in the market was the Urban Decay Primer Potion (UDPP). Heck! I do not have the money to buy one (even now, nagkukuripot pa rin ako.. haha). I stumble about this so called mixing medium. I looked for Glycerine which is locally available at Mercury Drugstore for only 30.75 pesos. Also, an atomizer spray bottle is needed.

The formula is very easy. Use the cap of the atomizer spray as a measuring cup. Thus, the bottle cap in this post will be referred to as the "cup". Just add one cup of Glycerine plus three cups of water and shake shake shake. That's it! The trick is how to use this mixing medium. Spray it 3 inches away from your brush just to dampen it. Remember, not to make your brushes too wet with the medium or else you will have a hard time blending the eye shadows.

I bought this atomizer for only 27 pesos. You can buy cheaper ones in landmark. The lowest I have seen only amounts to 12-15 pesos only. This mixing medium works well with all kinds of eyeshadow finishes from matte to satin to shimmery ones.

Here is a sample swatch with the use of my home made mixing medium:

(I used the ELF Essential Little Black Beauty Book in Warm. This palette lacks pigmentation and is too powdery for my taste.. Definitely not a good buy!)

For less than 60 pesos, who would not love this trick?!

Some say this is the ultimate dupe for MAC Fix+.. Have not try it on my face though. :) Perhaps, I will try it soon as a face mist.

Also, make sure you make a new one every other two-three weeks because it expires easily. You would know it's expired because it changes color or consistency. This explains the reason why you only need a little amount for your DIY project.

Yesterday, I decided to do a DIY project. I saw a post from Monika of MomGoneVain about how she turned her Sleek Pout Paint into a lipstick/lipbalm. Here's her post: http://momgonevain.blogspot.com/2013/10/diy-turn-sleek-pout-paint-into.html

I do not have an OCC liptar nor a Sleek Pout Paint but I definitely have a lot of lipstick. When buying lip products, I do tend to get dismayed because they do not turn out the way I thought they would be. At times, a product would look great when swatched at the back of my hand but looks utterly different on my lips. There are also lip products that has the best pigmentation but makes my lips dry like crazy. An example is the Maybelline Baby Lips. Ohh Boy, I wish they were a bit more pigmented like Revlon Lip Butters. With Monika's post, I immediately thought that I could recreate my lipstick/lipbalms to my desired color, texture and finish just by mixing them. I decided to use my Maybelline Baby Lips as my base product for this project.

First, I scrape off the product from the tube, then placed it on a a ladle.

I decided to make 2 different kinds of DIY project. One is a glossy tinted balm and a moisturizing lipstick. By recreating your lipbalm/lipstick, you can actually control, moisture level, texture and finish depending on the amount of products you will use.

Then, you heat the ladle under low heat. Make sure you stir to mix the colors together.

Then, I pour the liquefied lipstick/lipbalm in the tube.

Thereafter, I place it in the freezer to harden the product.

This is how the product will look like after hardening.

Here is what my recreated lipbalm looks like. Isn't it pigmented? In actual, it can pass off as a Revlon Lip Butter na! Revlon Lip Butter in Lollipop is that you?? haha It looks so pigmented, glossy on my lips and glides on smoothly too.

Next is I turned my Maybelline Tangerine Pop into a lipstick.

The formula? Half of Maybelline Tangerine Pop + Half of Ever Bilena Off Beat Pink

+ 1/4 Ever Bilena Siennas = A semi matte finish lipstick.

I decided to recreate Ever Bilena lipsticks because they have great pigmentation and color but they just way too drying for my lips. I am definitely happy with the color turn out of this project. The lipstick I created is a pretty everyday bubblegum pink with a tiny hint of coral. I swear it looks so good. I wore it a while and it brightened my look. I even saw a girl in the restroom ogling at me when I retouch my lipstick. haha

Here is what it looks like on my lips. Think of a darker NYX Fig with a tiny hint of coral. I will definitely be wearing this color a lot. This also killed my lemming for new lip product I was planning to buy this weekend. BF loves the color too and he got bewildered when I told him I made it!. Effort daw ako masyado haha!

That's my DIY Project! I am thinking of recreating more lipsticks as I have tons that I have not been using. Does any one know where I can buy a twist up tube to place my DIY lip products?
